This is the documentation for the CatalogIntegrator BuyObjects Kit for use with Adobe® GoLive 6, both Mac and Windows. It assumes that you are familiar with the use of GoLive in building websites. For more information on GoLive, please consult the GoLive manual or application online help. A BuyObject is a code snippet containing the ordering information needed for a customer to purchase a product from your web site. Some are simple; just a button with the word "Add" or "Buy" (or whatever you want it to say) , and others have quantity input fields, checkboxes, radio buttons, popup menus for color, size, and other options, in various combinations. |

This kit allows you to develop your web site product pages on your local Mac or Windows PC. You can then upload them to your web site on the server. The actual CatalogIntegrator Shopping Cart does not have to be installed on the server first. It is perfectly OK to first use this kit and its included BuyObjects to develop your product pages and then later follow up by purchasing and installing the cart. Once the cart has been installed and your product pages are completed you just upload your product pages to the cart's HTML sub directory. The BuyObjects are contained in a special tab in the GoLive Objects pallete. Each one has its own icon, which is dragged |

and dropped onto the page in the Layout editor and configured in the GoLive Inspector with product description, number, price and various other values. |

The kit contains three Folders: 1. A folder named "CI_Unix ", containing the BuyObjects. This folder is to be copied into the Modules/Extend Scripts folder inside the Golive application folder. 2. A folder named "CIModelUnix folder", which contains a template site to facilitate building an e-commerce website. It is to be copied into the Site Templates folder inside the GoLive application folder, so that you can create new e-commerce sites simply by selecting "File-->New Site-->Copy from Template". It is not required, but it is a good aid and production tool. 3) A folder named "BuyObjectDocumentation", which contains the documentation for this BuyObjects Kit. You really should read it. Note that there are also two text files named "DummyCartREADME.txt" and plain "README.txt" You ought to read those, too. "CIModelUnix folder" is a very useful site template for use with building CatalogIntegrator Unix sites. You can add additional pages and directories to it that you want to. But if you use it, and save the product pages you create into it, you will find that they are already linked to the cart. That will save you time and unnecessary mental exercise. It contains an HTML directory for your Product Pages, and several sample pages containing different kinds of BuyObjects. These are to be found in the "CIModelUnix /SamplePages" subdirectory. You can view them with your browser by clicking here. There are also two gifs in the "CIModelUnix folder". These gifs are for the "File-->New Site-->Copy from Template" dialog box. Instructions for setting this up are on the Site Template Installation Page. Note: When submitting an item to the "cart using these Sample Pages, you will be linked to the Dummy Cart pages and no product will be added because they are static, Dummy pages, not the real cart pages. However, when you have the actual CatalogIntegrator Cart installed and configured on your server, these pages will work normally, and the items ordered will be added to the cart. Note: There is a sub-directory named Gollum in the"CIModelUnix folder". It contains an external style sheet for this Documentation. (There are other Gollum directories at various places in the CatalogIntegrator Unix cart package. These contain stylesheets and external javascript libraries. The name was chosen so as to prevent overwriting these libraries with your own, while you work.) Here is the most important thing to do when getting started: copy the "CatalogIntegrator" folder that you see in Figure 1 above, into the Modules/Extend Scripts filder inside the GoLive Application folder, as shown in Fig 2. If you do this, and use the "CIModelUnix folder" site template, building your product pages will be much easier. The images in some of the BuyObjects (such as image submit buttons) will be already be linked, and linking to the cart will already be done for you in most cases. With these tools, you can build fully functioning, feature-rich e-commerce websites for use with CatalogIntegrator Unix Cart. |
